Ink-y FAQs
Can I use any of these inks in my fountain pen?
Yes! Every ink sample we sell is intended for use in a fountain pen.
There are some inks we advise against leaving in a pen for a long period of time without cleaning, however. These are typically the waterproof inks such as the De Atramentis Document inks and inks containing iron gall. Similarly, inks with a particularly high shimmer content may be prone to clogging in some pens.
This should not damage the pen but can be a pain to clean out if you don't stay on top of it!
Please see our Waterproof Inks Guide for more detail.
I don't know what ink to get. Can you help me?
Absolutely! Get in touch with us at hello@theinkedpaw.co.uk and we can help you pick out the right ink(s) for your needs.
How much writing can I do with a single ink sample?
This depends on your pen, the nib, and how big you write!
For context, however, a regular 'short' ink cartridge holds about 0.8ml of ink, so our 2ml ink vials are equivalent to nearly two and a half cartridges. If you use a converter, the ink capacity varies between around 0.6ml and 1.1ml, with most holding around 0.9ml - so still two refills from our samples.
If you write with a fine or extra-fine nib, you can do a lot more writing on a single fill than if you use a juicy broad, stub, or flex nib. The same ink might provide you with 80+ pages of writing in an extra-fine nib but only 10 pages in a double broad.
In short: we can't promise you will get X number of pages of writing from a sample, but we can promise it's sufficient ink for you to thoroughly test and enjoy it.
Do you sell full bottles?
Not at the moment. Watch this space!
Can you get in a particular ink for me?
If you want to sample a particular ink that we don't currently have listed, please contact us at suggestions@theinkedpaw.co.uk - we can't make any promises, but we may be able to start stocking it! (It's also possible we already have it for our own use and just haven't listed it on the website yet.)
We like to try to stock the more popular ones, as well as some more 'out there' ones, and we're always on the look out for new inks. Look out for our blogs as Tom has a bit of an ink buying (and blending) habit!
